You know what? 2013 was a great year for me. To be honest, the only extremely exciting part of 2012 was that I married the love of my life that year.. Other than that, I was pretty lost in all areas.. including PLANNING for the wedding! I hated my job (and it hated me), I was over-worked, under-paid, and just didn’t have the time for the things I truly enjoyed. I remember hearing a few people make their statements about the upcoming year at the New Years celebration I attended at the beginning of 2013- which, by the way, was kicked off with our car sliding into a ditch in the driveway of the house we were celebrating at, the husband and I throwing our hands up in frustration and deciding to deal with it later- Go in and have a glass of champagne while watching the ball drop, participating in an impromptu sing-a-long, as generally happens with my group of friends, and enjoy being dressed up in masquerade costumes. After the midnight festivities, the entire crowd of around 20 people spending the next couple of hours outside merrily playing in the snow and taking turns trying to get the car out any way we could (which included shovels, one Ford Explorer, one Jeep, one 3/4 ton pickup truck, a tire swing [yes, a tire swing], some other bits of rope, AND a broken wench that just so happened to be in tact before this whole fiasco (by the way… our car is a tiny Nissan Sentra. Not exactly heavy..) In the end, the 3/4 ton truck with the help of the tire swing won the contest). Anyway, I specifically remember hearing a couple of different people say they thought 2013 was going to be a great year. And I specifically remember thinking “HA! I’ll believe that when I see it…” Funny how things can change, right?
I didn’t have a great outlook beginning this year. But over time and with some effort, the world around me started to seem a little brighter. A lot of what changed was a change inside of me- soul searching, planning, and digging out some unnecessary “responsibilities” and “projects” and things that were weighing me down. But the biggest change was the change of employment- from working for someone else doing something I HATED, simply because it was a job, to working for myself doing something I absolutely LOVE.
This year has taught me a great deal of things, one being patience (this is and always will be an on-going lesson for me) and another being gratefulness. And my goodness, am I grateful for what I have. And I’m grateful to the people who have helped me attain what I have. Those people are the friends and family and clients that I have had the joy of working with over the past year.. because without those people, I wouldn’t have been able to come the distance I have in just one year. My goodness, what a gift they’ve given me.
So in order to show my appreciation, I’d really like to give a little back to those people. This will require a bit of participation on their parts, but I hope the end result will be worth the extra two minutes of their time.
SO! If you’ve been in front of my camera within the past year- whether you were a paying client or one of my wonderful models who were gracious enough to sacrifice your time to help me build my portfolio- this is for you! I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me a quick email at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know what your mailing address is. I have a free gift to send you, as a small thank you for helping me succeed. Because I totally owe it to you, and I’m excited about it!
I do urge you to take a few minutes now to get that information to me so you don’t miss out on this- my personal deadline for gathering the information and preparing my gift will be December 31, 2013, so I can have them ready to send out within the first couple of weeks of 2014. No hints though! This is a surprise, and I know you’ll love it!
And again, I want to extend another gigantic (official) thank you to every one of you. I really can’t express my gratitude. I’ve got a lot of plans in store for my business in 2014, and I’m so grateful for the foundation you’ve helped provide me with!
